 Battle Jockey

PREMISE: Since the dawn of history, mankind has enjoyed a special relationship with the horse. Together we have journeyed across the lands. Together we have braved many dangers. That relationship still lives today, and it is best seen at the race track - where horse and jockey strive to come in first at the finish line and win the race. Of
course, it doesn't hurt if you punch out your fellow jockeys, or have your gallant steed kick the living daylights out of the horse running alongside you....
IMPRESSIONS: I'd almost be willing to lay money down on how long it will take for a silly grin to slowly spread over your face as you experience this game. Forget the Koei breeder/trainer sims - this is a derby game that hardcore arcade fanatics can appreciate! Namco delivers a winner yet again.

Жанр: Fighting

PREMISE: Hey, it's a fighter - enter the competition and be the last man (or woman, or creature) left standing.

IMPRESSIONS: A nice-looking Street Fighter clone with some sci-fi elements thrown in. Interesting, if not original, special moves.
 Battle Pinball

Жанр: Pinball

( 665 Кб )

PREMISE: A series of pinball tables built aroun Banpresto's "SD Battle" franchise.
IMPRESSIONS: If you liked the Crash series of pinball games by Naxat Soft, then you will probably like this. Some rather unusual table designs, great layout and options, and need we forget all the little critters running around among the bumpers?

VARIATIONS: This is part of Banpresto's SD Battle series; please see the SD Battle series entry for a complete list of titles.

PREMISE: The fearsome SD foursome of Ultraman, Gundam F91, Zenki, and Kamen Rider feature in this DSP-based racing game that bears strong similarities to F-Zero and Mario Kart.
IMPRESSIONS: While I won't put up on the same level as Mario Kart, I'll gladly place it on the next rung down. Makes good use of the DSP's abilities, although the tracks seem a little bland and there isn't as much in-game variety as Mario Kart.

VARIATIONS: This is part of Banpresto's SD Battle series; please see the SD Battle series entry for a complete list of titles. It was duplicated in Pocky's original list under the name Batoru Rezaazu; his was a literal rendition of the kana.

Super Robot Wars series.

Battle Soccer - Field no Hasha

Жанр: Sport, Football

PREMISE: So you like to play football with the best that Japan's star-studded stable of superheroes and rubber-suited villans and monsters have to offer? Then mix it up on the field with the likes of Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Zenki, Gundam F91, and all the enemies from their respective series. Hey now, wait a minute - what's Godzilla doing in there?!
IMPRESSIONS: The soccer sim itself is pretty average; it's the stable
of characters and their respective skills that are supposedly the selling points of these games. As for me, I think it's carrying the concept just a tad too far, but that may just be my Occidental predispositions.

VARIATIONS: This is part of Banpresto's SD Battle series; please see the SD Battle series entry for a complete list of titles.

Battle Soccer - 1992
Battle Soccer 2 - 1994, has better options and features a more impressive lineup of characters than its predecssor.

PREMISE: Take your typical late-stage Street Fighter 2 clone, give it a high-quality anime makeover, inject a heavy dose of both fantasy and Japanese cyberpunk, and then add a dash of humor to top things off. That's what you have in this one-of-a-kind versus fighter, which really doesn't require any knowledge of the language to enjoy.
IMPRESSIONS: Don't judge this game by its name, folks. The graphics are cool, the intro is attention-grabbing, and the music is wild. Definitely an otaku's pick.

Жанр: Beat'm Up

( 919 Кб )

  PREMISE: Based on the anime...?
IMPRESSIONS: My first reaction to this game was something along the lines of a anime Ghosts 'n' Goblins. Bears a striking resemblance to Popful Mail and other such anime side-scrollers. Hmmm, intersesting....
 Battletech

Жанр: Shoot'em Up, 3D

( 729 Кб )

PREMISE: Mecha-oriented isometric shooters inspired by the popular
RPG by FASA.

IMPRESSIONS: A hideously bad attempt to duplicate EA's Strike series. Evading enemy fire is well-nigh impossible, the graphics are lame, and the animation is poor.

VARIATIONS: This series is also known under the tile Mechwarrior, which I've been led to believe is the title for non-American markets. My copies of the carts bear the Mechwarrior title, but my G/MD versions bear the Battletech title. Go figure.

Battletech - 1991, aka Mechwarrior
Battletech 3050 - 1995, aka Mechwarrior 3050

В США эта игра увидела свет как Mechwarrior
