PREMISE: Yet another one of those Japanese games in which you
choose a hero who will go on a quest to recover a fabled weapon and defeat the monstrous evil plaguing the land - in this case, a jilted sorceress.
IMPRESSIONS: A nice little game that had me hooked for a while. Odd controls, but I love the two player mode, where I and my
cousin can play non-stop. Fun!

PREMISE: The player takes control of the lead character, Ardy, as he goes on a quest to collect treasure and fight the bad guys. Joining him as a sidekick is a bird who helps Ardy out on occasion.
IMPRESSIONS: Furry platform games are almost a genre in themselves, and Ardy is a nice contribution to the growing collection of titles. It was not ground-breaking like Sonic or Claw, but if platform games are your thing, you might find it interesting.
VARIATIONS: Two versions of this game exist, with 1993 and 1994
copyrights for Japanese and European markets respectively.

PREMISE: Based on Rin Taro's acclaimed anime/manga series, you get to try your skills as a fighter pilot in the world's most deadly battleground - the no-man's land in North Africa known simply as Area 88.
IMPRESSIONS: As slick as the arcade version, though the smaller graphics pale in comparison. Still, though, the arcade didn't have this version's inspiring opening cinema (at least the U.S. version didn't, anyway). Can you tell I'm a big fan of the series? Extremely hard and highly recommended - the perfect humbling experience for self- proclaimed shooter gods.

IMPRESSIONS: Beautiful animesque artwork, lush scenery, and a semi-original approach to first-person battles where enemies can attack from the sides and rear. Still, the gameplay is hardly exciting and the enemy designs are lame. In the age of Wild Arms and Final Fantasy 7, it just isn't worth the trouble to import.

PREMISE: A reworked version of the arcade classic Arkanoid with
both new graphics and lots of new power-ups.
IMPRESSIONS: This could have been a classic. Beautiful graphics,
awesome new power-ups, and 99 stages - but its just too damn easy. The ball moves so slowly there's almost no chance you'll miss it, even on the highest difficulty setting. |

PREMISE: The only witnesses to a mob hit, Ryo and Robert were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Since then, they've been shot at, run off the road, and nearly blown to pieces! Now, the mob has kidnapped Ryo's sister. With no place else to turn, Ryo and Robert fight back the only way they know how - with their fists!
IMPRESSIONS: These are ports of the original coin-op arcade games. The first is generally regarded as the inferior port, while the second comes fairly close to the original. Fight game fans will no doubt love 'em. There is also an anime video based on the games
VARIATIONS: This series is also known by the Japanese titles Ryouko no Ken and Ryu Tora no Ken; I am unclear as to the reasons behind both.
