PREMISE: A sidescrolling arcade game designed to help diabetic children become comfortable with giving themselves their daily insulin shots. The name of the hero comes from a term for human insulin.
IMPRESSIONS: I first heard about this game on my shortwave in a Radio Canada feature, where it was praised for its ability to connect with today's videogame oriented youth. Sure, it may lack the polish and gameplay of a real arcade game, but that isn't its intended purpose. It seems to do its intended job well enough, and is still used by diabetic treatment facilities as of this date.
VARIATIONS: This is part of a series of edutainment titles released by Raya, see the Raya Systems series entry for more information on the company and its history with Nintendo. |

PREMISE: Young Tsubasa Ozoru has a simple yet challenging dream - to become the greatest soccer player that ever lived. Based on the long-running manga/anime series created in 1982 by Yoichi Takahashi.
IMPRESSIONS: Combine anime-style karate moves and blitz screens along with a Slam Dunk style gameplay and you wind up with a soccer sim that can't be beat.
VARIATIONS: The first two entries in the series are not available for the SNES/SFC. They are part of the NES/FC library.
Captain Tsubasa 3 - 1992
Captain Tsubasa 4: Puro no Raibara Tachi - 1993, this is considered by most to be the best of the series.
Captain Tsubasa 5 - 1995, also known as Boys Soccer Team 5 from the excellent English translation patch. This installment is radically different from its predecessors, and not all agree that it was a change for the better.
Captain Tsubasa J: The Way to World Youth - 1995, the last and worst installment by all accounts. Bad graphics and gameplay that aren't up to the par of even Captain Tsubasa 3. PREMISE: A first-person flight sim style shooter featuring your choice of aircraft from World War II's Pacific theater. Ported from the popular Amiga game.
IMPRESSIONS: You have barely enough screen to see what you are doing, and the flight model is poor. A good example of a bad flight simulator. |

PREMISE: A collection of three classic arcade games from the 1980s - Star Force, Star Sector, and Hector.
IMPRESSIONS: Extremely faithful ports of the arcade originals - right down to the graphics and gameplay. A good way to scarf up copies of these hard-to-find titles. |

PREMISE: Become a 'Cardmaster' and save your world from evil. A '3D' RPG using the DM approach. Small enemies in bland dungeons are explored one at a time between town levels. In other words, it's very linear.
IMPRESSIONS: An innovative approach to the genre. Technically it's a 3D dungeon crawler with 90-degree rotations and wait- your-turn battles. It can get boring and repetitive real fast, as well as make you dizzy, and the English translation is HORRIBLE; however, the characters are cool (long live Darwin!) and the soundtrack, while having some wimpy instruments, comes with some good tunes.

PREMISE: Based on the feature film inspired by the classic animated shorts about a young ghost who prefers being nice instead of scaring people. This is a platformer, and not to be confused with the interactive adventure released for the PC and various Sega platforms.
IMPRESSIONS: Okay, so it's a game for kids. Still, it's quite difficult, and I don't get it. |

PREMISE: For hundreds of years, the legendary Transylvanian vampire known as Dracula has stalked the night, feeding on the life blood of the living and inspiring evil wherever he set foot. For hundreds of years, it has been the self-appointed job of the Belmont family to seek out the places where Dracula and his followers would dare to abide and free them from the vampire's curse.
This is a venerated series of action games whose roots are in the 8-bit days of computer gaming and which continues in new games and spinoffs as of this date.
IMPRESSIONS: The Castlevania series is legendary for its overall excellence in side-scrolling platform action, and the two SNES/SFC titles are no exception. The first is a souped-up port of the revered NES/FC game of the same name and is considered by many to be the best version of that title to date - Rage Games praises its gameplay and music in particular. The second was ported from the PC Engine CD-ROM game of the same name and suffered in the
translation; however, it was the first to employ anime- graphics in its design (which would come to their fruition in the highly regarded Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the Playstation).
VARIATIONS: In practice with many other SNES/SFC titles, the first Castlevania game for this console has the word "Super" tacked on front. All titles are listed here for convienence's sake.
Super Castlevania 4 - 1995, released in Japan under the title Akumajo Dracula 4.
Castlevania 5: Vampire's Kiss - 1996, also known as Vampire Killer, released in Japan under the title Akumajo Dracula X, and in Europe as Dracula X: Rondo of Blood.
